PI Swap Q's

I am considering swapping the heads in my 96 GT for those out of a 99 GT. I am aware that I need new gaskets, head bolts, intake manifold and also would have to run higher octane gas due to the increased compression, is 93 octane high enough to take care of that? Also, is there anything else I should know so I don't mess up anything in my car? Thanks!

I ran 91 in mine several times without any problems, when you take everything apart check the chains/tensioners, waterpump too.

One thing you haven't specified is what Intake you are going with, the Plastic coolant crossover PI or the Aluminum coolant crossover PI. Make sure it's the aluminum

If it were up to me I would just find a pi motor in a junked car and swap the whole motor unless you were planning on refreshing the timing chains gears and such or planning on doing cams in the heads while they are off.

if you ever plan on doin a power adder(turbo, supercharger) then go with a full motor swap but if you plan on leavin it n/a then id go with the pi head swap. better compression and more power from what i hear. im gettin ready to do a pi head swap myself this winter

PI head swap will put you around 10;5;1 compression.I've heard that this is a way to really boost the power levels on those cars.

If money is your problem, just the standard up in compression with make you run 91oct. If you get some cometic head gaskets you can drop the compression a bit

the manifold isnt aluminum, the coolant crossovers are, you can tell easily by looking where the thermostat is, it's either aluminum or plastic. stay away from the plastic one

My friend has a -I think 2000 cop car that's in pieces. Anyone need an engine? I'm in ct. I will find out the exact year and post tomorrow. If the car is still there it's going to be cheap for the motor. He races circle track and always needs money.

Nope the car is sold. However we do have a 2003 crown vic we are keeping for the local pd as a parts car-body parts. Should be available for driveline parts late this year or early next.Let me know your needs.

PI Swap

91 or 93 is fine, just a word to the wise because I went through the same swap as well. First of all if your gonna get heads go all out and get the PI ported and polished or get a set of Patriot or Trickflow heads, they will make way more power than a stock PI head.

Also if you decide to run a higher lift cam, make sure you watch your oil. I ran a Comp Cams XE270AH cam, and because my stock rings couldn't seal correctly because of the added compression I lost a little oil pressure and my valves very slightly contacted my pistons.
