how to tell the difference

I'm looking to buy a 347 stroker motor but the ad says A4 R 347 stroker motor. From what research I've done, I'm not seeing anything that says that Ford made a A4 R block. It's either a A4 block or an R block. Now there aren't many pics of the motor except for one that is showing the top of the block and there is a R in the middle where the spider for the lifters would go. Could this block be a R block? How would I tell the difference between the two blocks? I plan on buying it, it's a 347 short block with the water pump, it has all arp bolts, and comes with a Canton oil pan and pick up. It also has a dss main gridle and he says it only has about 20 passes on it. What should I look for when looking at it? The guy is only asking $2000 obo. Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to buy something that isn't any good.

That's a great deal.

YOU MUST FLIP IT OVER...pull the pan and look at it. If it has the 4 bolt mains, buy it.

Another tell tale is to look at the head bolts/studs. If they're 7/16 it's a stock block, if they're 1/2 it's an a4 or R. But savvy scammers have been known to drill and tap a stock block for larger hardware so I wouldn't rely on that alone.

Thank you so much Lou. I appreciate the information. I'm still in the learning process. Lol My wife talked me out of it. She rather see me get the 351w running rather than spend more money on another motor.
