Question Cut Rear Coil Springs?

Finally got some Stock Rear Coil Springs for my '86 GT. I cut 1 coil off from where it ended and went up one coil, right? Then I tapered it like the end I cut off. Is this correct? Or should I have just cut the coil squarely? Pics would help? Do you think 1 coil removed will be enough to lower and fit my 275x60x15s? Here is a before pic with the rear drag springs w/air-bag and almost empty fuel tank.

You don't cut the control arm end, you cut one coil from the chassis/body end. Just cut it...no need to be fancy.

Use a cutoff wheel not a torch

Question

Woops! I cut the end that sits on the control arms! My Bad! So I should have cut the upper coil off instead of the lower section of the coil? Looks like I need another set! Damn! Anyone have another set?

---------- Post added at 06:52 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 PM ----------

O.K. I just looked at the car again. The small end of the coil faces downward, correct? I had the rear coil springs up-side down so they would stand up. So I might be O.K. then. What i did is cut off one coil from the upper section of the coil springs. I marked where the coil spring ends, then I marked another mark just above it on the next coil up. I cut it squarely, then tapered it like the factory did. Is this correct? Would like to get this correct Before I send to Powder Coater. Should I reinstall the air-bag or just go ahead and get the Anti-Roll Bar for the rear? Thanks!

Alright. car has almost empty fuel tank in it now. I just removed the Drag Springs and installed the cut factory springs. First attempt, car still was at about 29 inches. I made sure the spring where not binding or control arms and stock bottom mounting bolts where loose. So I figure since the First coil on the factory was pretty flat, that was the reason for it not to drop much. So I cut another full coil off, and now the height is at 28 inches off the ground. It dropped one inch and the clearance looks much better now. Not as much as before. I figure with full tank of gas and me ( 220lbs) it should be about right. Here are some pics: http://s28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...%20Suspension/

Lmfao...

what are you trying to accomplish with stock springs vs your drag ones, tire clearance?

Talking

Tire Clearance needs to be less and do away with the air bag and install anti-roll bar. Might have to make a 4hr trip to Lou's place to get my car sorted out.

Don't cut any more until you have the car at race weight. That means DONE, fuel, and you sitting in the seat!
