Dual Exhaust System

I've been talking with some members about going to a dual exhaust system. Now, I'm assuming that one of the exhausts will be dead, the pipe just being there for cosmetic purposes.

Can someone give me a quickie on what I'll have to buy and a ball park on the costs of the parts I'll need. Someone said that going to a dual will improve my power and improve my MPG. Is that a true statement?

TIA for the help,
Greg

Greg,

Here's a few kits for ya to browse.

http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...Conversion-Kit

http://www.cjponyparts.com/product.asp?pn=M5230MV62

The duals will help the car breathe and you'll pick up a few more HP and a little MPG.

no it won't be a dead pipe your car is a v6 or heck for that matter you and even make a 1 cylinder have dual exhaust. just depends on muffler and you can also get a y pipe.

and guessing from the links he posted the stock exhaust goes dual to single stock.

like i've seen some v6's go headers almost directly into single then back. but yours must come part way back then go to single.

i have looked under the new mustangs so no clue.

but just buy a exhaust like he posted and they bolt right in.

Is it just me or when you looked under the new Mustang did it seem like the gas tank was extremely small? I've never seen one that small.

I think they are 15 gallon tanks. Get that Ford Racing kit Greg and you won't be disappointed. I did the duals on my car in an hour and a half

I've looked all over for that thread and I can't find it. I'm deaf and stupid, can you tell me where it is?

I'll take you up on that, but, only if you'll let me pay you for it. Let me know when you want to do it and I'll pick up the kit. Where's the best place to buy the kit?

The dealer says the cost is $995.00 on the kit with a delivery time of 3 weeks. Do any of you know if I can do any better on the price and delivery time?

Anthony,

If I have a 15 gallon gas tank, then I have even more serious an issue with my MPG than I thought. My tank is seriously close to empty and I only put 130.6 miles on a full tank. Why can't I convince these mechanics that this is a serious problem?

I( have no idea but something must be wrong. I think I get 225 to 3/4 of a tank.

It's a 16 gallon tank.

Wow Mike, I knew I had a bad MPG situation but 131 miles on a full tank? There is something seriously wrong and these mechanics just aren't taking the time to figure it out. All I hear is the comp says I'm getting these unrealistically high MPG's. All I get is the runaround. Possibly the computer is giving off faulty signals? I wish I knew more about my car. I'm hoping that the dual exhaust will improve things a bit. I've always respected Ford and I love my car, but it's using so much gas that I just can't afford to drive it very often. This tank full only gave me 8.18 MPG and still Ford won't do anything to help a very disatisfied customer.

I'm determined to find an answer here. I waited most of my life waiting to be able to buy a Mustang and I'm not going to lose this one. Anyway, thanks for the info.

Greg

Greg,

Check this setup out. Im not sure of the manufacturer but the price is nice.

http://www.newtakeoff.com/mustang_V6...sion_2010.aspx

Also, how are you calculating your MPG? When I do mine I note the milage when I fill up, drive the truck till I need fuel again. Then I pump gas until the nozzle clicks off. I then note the gallon amount. I get back in the truck and look at the milage. I subtract the old mileage from the new milage then divide by the amount of gallons I just pumped. I get roughly 16mpg with my 03 F-250

if ford sells it, then you can get a cheaper price through a ford motorsports dealer, as the same exact parts, but has a motorsports part# and is cheaper. IE) an aluminum driveshaft through ford was $275, and ford motorsports sold the same thing for $175.

i don't need money, but feel free to provide food/drink. my schedules open and the newer exhaust is a lot easier to work with, due to the new style clamps.

so you're still having that mileage issue? i thought it was all sorted out. if they think it's all OK, maybe you should try trading it in for another one or another dealer etc.

+1 on what justin said. all of my vehicles get better mileage than that, even my '94 & gt500.
