My 2013 budget cobra build starting to gather up the pieces
It's going to be mostly all cobra parts from 93 I got the gt 40 heads F3ZE ,all cleaned up and redone no port work just springs seals etc ready to bolt on.Cobra upper/lower intake, cobra valve covers, crane energizer 1.7 rockers, factory gt HO cam that's already in the car,255 walbro fuel pump, accufab 70mm tb and summit 75mm 19lbs maf. Going to leave the factory 19lbs injectors in from the car bbk shorty headers,h-pipe high flow cats.I still must buy the parts that are not shown in the picture.I figure I got all summer to work on this and find good deals on the corral ! I didn't want to spend a ton of money and didn't want something super fast, just maybe 40-60 more hp trying to keep factory Ford parts in the car.Anyway i'm open for thoughts and suggestions on my build for 2013 so feel free to comment. 'Shifter' Lou is going to do the engine build for me seems very popular on the forums and has alot of good feed backs from other members so i'm giving him the duty's of the build ! Going to be installing Maximum Motorsports Full Length Subframe Connectors in the next 4 weeks or so to give the car added strength for the extra horse power .. Thanks
![]() I had to quick take this picture before my wife see's this stuff sitting in the living room....lol

The scorpion 1.72's I was running cleared the stock aluminum efi valve covers, don't know about the steel ones tho...i had to flatten the baffle a bit to get them to clear...
Cobras had the crane 1.7's from the factory, don't know how different the shape of the body might have been from the scorpions tho... ---------- Post added at 07:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:44 AM ---------- Looks like you found a real cobra intake huh? No Chinese crap

These are the 93 valve covers from cobra so the baffles inside should be made up a little higher than stock one because 93 cobra ran the crane cam 1.7' rocker from factory so i hope they clear inside ? I decided on going with the stock HO came that's already in the engine and the stock 19lb injectors should be good up to like 280 hp or so why change them out .I heard of people doing this.Yes that is an original lower cobra intake ! Lou is a good guy and I'm going to trust him with my build even thou I never meet him yet ...lol
What do you guys think i'm open for suggestions things can change I only bought the parts shown above in the picture but I might be buying the 70 mm tb today any thoughts on that ? I wanted to match it to the size of the intake which is 70 mm... thanks( decided not using the scorpion rockers using the crane 1.7's) ![]() Here's what the engine looks like now factory 5.0 I'ts time to change it up alittle with the budget build !

Sounds like a cool build Rich. If it were me I would put a little more cam in it with the 1.7's. Like a B cam. But Lou is the man for the job. He has done lots of work to my car. Check out my build thread and look at the pix. Most of that was done by him.

ehh..id just keep the stock cam..keep that stock driveability..the b cam drove like absolute **** under 2k before i spent $$ on a custom tune..and even then...still want the greatest
i dont know what springs are on those p heads, but if they're stock, regardless if they're brand new or not, change them out for Crane beehive 44308-1's or the TFS upgrade kit..my $.02

As long as they're spec'd for a hyd roller cam and not a flat tappet grind...lift capability is only one aspect...having them be too far from coil bind isn't good either...

I didnt think the B cam was that bad but IMO you would know better than I. I would still put a mild street cam in to "pep" it up just a little more. Was the cobra cam different from a stock HO cam?

The cobra cam was different..i don't remember the specs off hand, but I think it was slightly less aggressive...the speed density ho cams had faster ramp rates than the 89-93 cams..Ford made them softer to make the valvetrain quieter in the later years
Adding duration will make it "peppier" thru the mid and high rpm ranges, but that sacrifices low rpm driveability...you can get a cam that'll keep the low rpm easy driving, but you're not going to find that with any letter cam or other budget offering(tfs1, etc)...youll need to get something from comp like an xe264hr or similar...

Joe now you got me thinking? I already did ask him and they are for a hyd roller cam but with out any receipts ? I'm just going by a man and his word that had them built. Is there any way of checking this spring kit on these heads just to make sure before the install? I really don't want to go out and spend more money on another spring kit when he said they are for hyd roller cam.....

---------- Post added at 08:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:11 AM ---------- Lou will work your rear end over too, no charge lol.... I'm all for that I don't mind getting my hands dirty greasy.I want to learn and understand these motors and how they work !

only way to check them(that i know of) would be to have a machine shop remove one and check pressure at installed height, find the coil bind spec and open pressure, to figure out the spring rate...honestly, they'll probably be ok for the stock cam..for a mild hyd roller you should see at least 110-120 on the seat and at least 300 @ .500lift
---------- Post added at 08:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:16 AM ---------- i didnt mean the rear in your car...lol..you gotta pay for that ---------- Post added at 08:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:17 AM ---------- FWIW, here are the specs for the stock mustang, cobra, and various other cams ford used the E5 were the speed density, the E8,F1,F4 were all the mass air cams, the the F3 was the cobra..you can read the notes listed at the bottom
